The designation of controlling persons for foreign business groups is emerging as a key issue ahead of South Korea’s 2026 National Assembly Audit.

While foreign and multinational groups have often designated a Korean corporate entity as their controlling person, questions are growing over how the Korea Fair Trade Commission reviews foreign ownership structures and identifies relevant Korean affiliates.
